Buscando la copa ideal para nuestro Xarel.lo / The ideal glass for our Xarel.lo

Mientras esperamos que salga el vino al mercado, (llegará a finales de Febrero), estamos buscando la copa ideal para nuestro Xarel.lo 2009.

Para ello, vamos a realizar catas con varias marcas de vidrio y Luego una con las copas de cada marca que mejores sensaciones nos hayan dado.

La primera cata se ha realizado con la marca catalana de copas de cristal Riera.

Hemos seleccionado las tres copas que tienen para vinos tranquilos, y aunque son muy diferentes, ha habido gratas sorpresas, a continuación mis impresiones:


Copa Riera Penedés:

El cuerpo alargado de la copa, hace que el aroma sea intenso y perfumado, se nota la fruta blanca muy marcada y se perciben claramente las notas varietales. Elegante y muy gustoso en boca, su fino cuello dificulta un poco a la hora de beber. Una copa que marca mucho la intensidad y el perfume del aroma.


Copa Riera Rioja:

Aroma equilibrado, las notas cítricas de limón y lichi, se aúnan con una sensación final de frescor balsámico y profundidad. Largo, redondo y sabroso en boca.
En esta copa el vino ha encontrado un gran equilibrio, ha podido moverse con agilidad y destapar nuevas gamas aromáticas.


Copa Riera Priorat:

Aunque en principio esta copa está pensada para otro tipo de vinos, hemos querido probarla. En el aroma predominan las notas mas balsámicas de la variedad (recuerdos de pino). La boca se muestra viva, con algo de nervio y la acidez marcada (debido al tamaño ancho, el líquido pasa directamente a los lados de la lengua). Una copa que oxigena bastante el Xarel.lo.


Para nosotros, la mejor copa Riera para probar La Caseta de Fusta Xarel.lo 2009, ha sido el modelo Rioja ya que el vino encontraba un mayor equilibrio tanto en nariz como en boca.

THE IDEAL GLASS FOR OUR XAREL.LO 2009:

While waiting patiently until the end of February when our new 2009 Xarel.lo makes it's debut, we here at Vins La Caseta de Fusta have been searching for the perfect glass with which to taste this exciting new wine.

We have completed the first of our series of tastings to choose the glass that best brings out the outstanding characteristics of our Xarel.lo.

The first tasting was done using the “Riera” Catalan glasses. Riera has been a local producer of fine glassware since 1981.

We selected three styles of glass for tasting the wine, each with a completely different design.
These tastings led to some interesting surprises.

Glass Penedés:
The long body of this glass makes the aroma intense and fragrant. You can smell the white fruit and typical Xarel.lo aromas. The wine is elegant and very tasty in mouth. Its thin knee makes a bit difficult to taste. Glass Penedes shows off both the intense flavor and fragrance of the wine.

Glass Rioja:
This slightly shorter Bordeaux style glass delivers a well balanced aroma. The taste starts off with citrus and lemon flavours and ends with a deep, fresh balsamic finish. The wine is long, round and tasty in mouth. Glass Rioja displays the wine's great balance, moving easily and bringing out new aromas.

Glass Priorat:
This shorter all purpose glass is made for a variety of wines, but we wanted to taste our Xarel.lo in it as well. The balsamic flavours of the grape variety are very noticable in the aroma, reminescent of pine. The mouth is fresh, with some intensity and acidity present. Due to the size of the glass, the wine is directed to the sides of the tongue. This glass seems to allow too much oxygen to mix with the wine.

All things considered, we found the best Riera glass for tasting “La Caseta de Fusta Xarel.lo 2009” is the Rioja model because it best displays the wine's well balanced aroma and deep, fresh citrus flavors.
